For travelers who find themselves lost or without a map while traveling through some of the biggest cities across the U.S., having just a cell phone can now quickly offer with all the direction they need.

Dial Directions, a company providing a platform for voice-activated location-based services, offers a free voice-activated phone service that provides directions to a destination and combines the capabilities of voice interfaces with speech recognition and navigation.

The service, which was already available in New York, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Chicago, Dallas, Denver, Sacramento, San Diego and Washington, D.C has now been extended to also offer those in the Atlanta, Boston, Detroit, Miami, Philadelphia and Las Vegas Metro-areas with access to voice-activated directions as well.

Cell phone users need only dial "DIR-ECT-IONS" (347-328-4667), and once connected to the system, speak their starting location and destination. Once the system understands the spoken request, it instantly sends a text message with turn-by-turn driving directions.

"Dial Directions provides any cell phone user with a free, easy and convenient way to get directions to a destination, the nearest business chain, or a local event. It's just a simple phone call -- no downloads, special phone, or web plan requirements," commented Amit Desai, cofounder and chief product officer of Dial Directions.

Company officials have also noted their future vision to make Location Based Services accessible to anyone with a cell phone, and not limited to only smartphones.
