No Time to Input a Destination into Your Nav System? Phone it In.
Dial Directions' new navigation app claims it takes the hassle out of getting where you're going by automatically sending a destination to a nav system with just a quick phone call.
The company, which provides directions via text messaging from a mobile phone, lets you use your phone as a "remote control" for a "connected" GPS device. Only problem is there's currently only one of those available: Dash Express.
According to Dial Directions, you simply call DIR-ECT-IONS (347-328-4667), speak your destination and starting point and the directions are automatically sent to your Dash device. Click here to see a video demo of how it works.
Besides ease of use, Dial Directions boasts of the safety benefits of using the service since you don't have to take your hands off the wheel to enter a destination into the nav -- as long as you're using a Bluetooth hands-free device to make the call. And if you're driving you should be.
The service is free and only requires registering a phone number with Dash. With more two-way connected car nav units on the horizon, the Dial Directions value-added service could quickly gain traction beyond the handful of Dash users.
And anything that lessens driver distraction -- and gets us to a destination more quickly -- is welcome.

This strikes me as funny. Can't they just give it some voice commands?
